I'm a small-time webmaster with a strong side interest in SEO.
I have a couple of dozen sites, all built on the 'Content is King' [© W.Gates 1996] philosophy - and most built before Adsense came along! My sites bring a little income via (quality) affiliate programs, and I also sell directly through a couple of sites.
In SEO, I have a personal interest in web site diagnostics, and I believe that most SEO is a simple matter of Quality; Quality Links and Quality Content.
I'm a strong believer in White Hat methods, but, contrary to rumour, I much prefer to discuss the issues on a risk/benefit level than on a Moral High Ground basis. I really don't believe argument changes people's morals, so I don't really try. While I believe white hat is 'right', what really matters in SEO discussion is that it works, and avoids sleepless nights.
I'm blessed with having no technical bones in my body, so I treat SEs as 'black boxes' - I produce a good page, they allocate a fair serp (on a good day).
All this mathematical calculation of how much 'link juice' you'll save by putting nofollow on one page out of 50,000, and whether 92.777778% or 92.777779% is a better 'keyword density' leaves me cold; create a page that reads well, and you'll avoid all that counting and headaches!
Like so much else in life, Good SEO is about avoiding mistakes ... hence my interest in Web Site Diagnostics.
I still have much to learn, and I'm more than happy to share what little I know.
