After read for some days this resource i signed in because it is realy usefull.
My first question is very simple:
What are the necessary tools software for start a SEO action?
It can be freeware, on line service (already tested most of those indicated in this forum) and commercial products.

Hi there Nexus,
When you are looking for a one in all program you should invest in IBP. It does everything you ever need. I used it for a few weeks now and am on the first page at MSN for several of my chosen keywords. It will compare your site with the top ten on any given keyword, will automatically submit your site to all the searchengines once a month and much more. It does cost somewhere around €150 but it is money well spend.

I've said it before, I'll say it again:
SEO work should be done manually, by people with knowledge and experience. Software does not optimize - people do.
Software which claims to submit for you will never know the latest rules, software may ANALYZE, but will not recommend changes based on today's search environment - instead it will recommend changes based on what it's programmed to say - out of date or not.
The best SEO Survival Toolkit is your time, reading threads and putting into practice what you learn.
...and I do this for a living - search on the following phrases and one of our sites is in the top 10 for each...(sometimes more than one of our sites is in the top 10)

nfl betting odds

sports betting

I use software to check rankings, count inbound links, do keyword research and that's about it - after that, it's experience which helps me make my recommendations to our Product Managers when they update site content, etc.
...and places like this are key to that knowledge - I learn new things here every day, even though I've been doing SEO work since 2001. SEF is all the tool you'll need.

People these days, want to be able to press a button and have some software automatically research the best keywords, write the entire 50 000 page website, upload it all, and submit it daily to 3000 search engines - without having to do any real work at all.
That's why the web is so full of junk.
And that is exactly the sort of junk that Google is trying very hard to no longer list.

Abso-freakin-lutely! I agree 100%.
Unfortunately, there are roughly 1.2 bazillion shills out there selling "SEO TOOLS" that promise all of that.
In the end, you don't care about your $50 when your site gets sandboxed - you've got bigger fish to fry and it never occurs that maybe that software lead you astray...

From what I have read on here it sounds like most software is a waste of money, But what about the books? any of them a good way to learn how to do it?. I am trying to improve the ranking of my sites and want to learn as much as I can about SEO. So far I have avoided the temptation to purchase a program like IBP or SeoElite but I still need a way to improve my websites?.

Most books can show you the basics but are sadly already out of date in many respects, even by the time the production cycle hits the printing press stage.
Forums have more information, and current information available. They do, however, sometimes have some nuggets missing: things that people would only reveal if you paid them.
There really is no great secret to SEO, and no magic bullet. Its about content (lots of unique useful content), organisation (coding, links), and technical setup (redirects, error pages), etc.
There is about 20 things you need to do. Get those done well, and you are already ahead of at least 99% of the competition.

Greg - I'll plug one of my faves here:
Planet Ocean produces a "book" which you download...an e-book, I suppose...
If you subscribe, they e-mail you a new password each month, thourhg which you can download ther latest version of the book. It's updated monthly to include the small, ongoing changes which happen in this industry.
I found is a solid starting point to learn the basics - they cover what you can do - good or bad, that's your choice, regardless, they explain how it all works.
As mentioned, though, it's bound to contain some things which are less-than topical. Anything in print lags behind knowledge sharing in forums.
I think it's a solid resource for folks wanting to learn the basics - plus, if you print a copy (about 180 pages), it's nice to have a book in your hands to read at your own pace.
