Most people (so-called high profiled IT professionals) reject SEO from the very pronunciation of the word. They call it SPAM. But they really do not understand that only SEO has attracted millions of people to look at the online business seriously. i just want you people to join me against those who reject SEO. Common SEO professional join hands in hand. You can write slogans, statements, views. But no abusive languages please!

Your post points to one of the reasons that people have a hard time with SEO.

Many people consider it to be associated with spam.

They most usually see this when people join a forum purely to drop links to their site.

Can you spell irony?

heck, even some SEO people think its a license to spam.

again, we get drive by spam by people claiming to be doing it in the name of SEO

its the balck hat tactics and the damage that it has done to some websites that have given SEO a bad name in some circles

This forum promotes white hat SEO

Not so.
There's two groups of people who reject SEO:

1. High profile idiots, who simply don't know any better.
2. Spammers, who do so to try and justify their cheating.

Naughty Hampstead - go stand in the corner for 15 minutes smile

G1 - funny you should say that, the JC who attacks SEO just to get his pathetic 'human powered search engine'[sic] talked about[yawn], is one such idiot. Tragically, not the only one!

One could make the argument that SEO and Spam are synonomous (i dont beleive this but it is an interesting point)

You could make an argument that black = white; but it wouldn't change anything. wink

There are two differences between spam and SEO that no amount of verbal gymnastics can hide.

1. Spammers do what spammers do with the INTENTION of gaining an unfair advantage; while you could argue that moral values are irrelevant, it's hard to argue that they don't exist.

2. Spammers do what they do in the full knowledge that what they do is deprecated, against guidelines and is cheating.

There are issues about those who have been poorly advised, have been careless or just plain stupid, and this thread, like many before, may get sidetracked into such issues.

But if you compare plain old fashioned spam and plain old fashioned SEO, you'd have to try quite hard to confuse the two. smile

And this matters; spam is NOT a 'victimless crime'; those who cheat are depriving others of what's rightfully theirs - not just a place on the front page of the serps, but possible income that might follow.

I always laugh at the use of the word "moral" when speaking about SEO. If you want morality I would suggest you find a local church/synagogue/ young republican singles mixer or whatever you align with and go there.

SEO is all about manipulation, whether you are within the rules or not.

"2. Spammers do what they do in the full knowledge that what they do is deprecated, against guidelines and is cheating."
Quadrille is right in saying that.

I would just add that White hat SEO does not intentionally try and HIDE their tequniques for manipulating search results as they are ready and acceptable by search engine guidlines and do not risk penalties.

Quite right.
But some spammers are easily confused wink

They get like counterfeiters who think they are making real money!
Sad, but you have to laugh at them smile

I think the line gets blurred by people who knowing use back hat methods and naive uninformed individuals that THINK they are SEO experts and unknowingly use black hat thinking they have a license to drop by this forum and sell sneakers.

too many people are setting up shop that actually know nothing.

look what some SEO expert told a friend of mine to do
wbflegalreform.com/
check out the keyword lists

the real problem isn't seo spammers and white hat vs. black hat, its the SEO expert that doesn't know what he's doing and ruins their clients sites, that's the problem.

They are both problems.

The idiot SEOs make life difficult for their clients - no-one else - though they may get SEO a bad name.

The spammers make it difficult for their clients (who end up with penalties), Google, and Internet searchers who get cr*p serps. And, while their spam succeeds, they make life difficult for their client's honest rivals, who are deprived of a fair serp.

How you can argue that the idiot is worse than the serial spammer, I'm not sure.

But I can guess wink

I totally agree. Where did I say anything that makes you think I would not agree?

But don't confuse SEO and Idiot SEO, which is the act of making a website, claiming to be "an expert SEO", then coming to forums with every little problem. Or worse, taking money in exchange for guesswork.

These people do harm to clients, and to the reputation of SEO, but it is small; the only clients hurt are those who seek SEO on the cheap, and make no checks before writing checks; and they soon learn, in most cases.

The problem for 'real SEOs' is that too few Idiot SEOs get taken to court. It's still too easy to pretend.

But all this is nothing compared to the serial spammer; it's like comparing an inefficient pickpocket with a smart-suited con man. Confusing the two is a sure way to get conned wink

actually the problem is...

professional SEOs they do the SEO in ethical and professional way...i.e no spamming.
the new comers or the beginners they think...spamming in all the forums and places..would help them...but actually..it is not.
