Well, I decided to go ahead and try for this "certification" with Yahoo.

Read through the study guide yesterday, and with almost an hour & a half this afternoon, managed to pass the test the first time through. smile

I'm super-pleased with this, as most of the knowledge I used for the test is from my years of using their systems, not from any real, meaningful studying yesterday.

Yep, you can keep the study guide open during the exam, but the questions jump around on topics, so you're really eating up time flipping through the guide.

You are allowed 1 1/2 hours to complete the test and can retake it if you fail.

The cost is $50 USD, and as usual for Yahoo, is non-refundable.

Next up, I'm supposed to get an e-mail with my unique tracking tag to use when signing up clients, and I get permission, if I understand this correctly, to use Yahoo's own specific logo to showcase the fact I'm a recognized Ambassador.

In a nutshell, the whole things boils down to a way for them to ensure you have basic knowledge of their systems if you're going to be running PPC campaigns. It also allows you to, should it be an option, aggregate smaller accounts into a "larger" value account, thus gaining YOU access to more services.

Trouble with that is you cannot remove a merged account later - so if a client scrams on you, they cannot take their account out of your block. YOU shut it down, and they start a new one, I guess...

Regardless, I think this is kinda cool.

Damn, just like back in university - except THIS mark would have brought my average down...LOL

Congratulations on passing. Your post does highlight one major issue though:

"Trouble with that is you cannot remove a merged account later - so if a client scrams on you, they cannot take their account out of your block. YOU shut it down, and they start a new one, I guess...?

If they really cannot separate it even manually that is a major drawback. That implies that you "own" their account and they don't.

Yahoo pitches the benefit to me, as the "agency" that by aggregating the spending thorugh one uber-account, I'll qualify for a higher level of service form them sooner, which benefits myself and all my clients.

For the moment, I'm planning to keep all accounts un-merged.

For the accounts we run at work (with my day-job), it makes sense to merge the accounts. For clients I take on outside that, they will remain unmerged to allow them to manage their own programs should they chose to discontinue with my services.

One things I'll state for clarity is that the merging of accounts only affects the spending and my logging into accounts. it doesn't mix the dollars between individual accounts (other than to aggreate the overall values as I mentioned), nor does it pool all search phrases. it simply allows me one area to access all accountf rom, and to see the value of pooling the dollars values together.

That it also ensures I must follow the rules to a "T" is not lost on me either. Since all client accounts would then be managed through one interface, it would save Yahoo time, and be a large problem for me professionally, should they decide I'm "coloring outside the lines". Losing one account, is one thing - losing all client acounts in one shot is something else altogether.

Really, though, this shouldn't be an issue since I play by the rules anyway. Bottom line is, however, it's still one leash for all the dogs, rather than each dog on it's own leash.
