I've recently started doing SEO for my clients... They pay me a fee and I optimize their website. I also send out monthly ranking reports... That's all fine and dandy.

However, it has been a few months now and one of my clients rankings in Google have disappeared. What should I do? Is it my responsability to fix this even though I've already optimized it previously? The rankings are still in Yahoo and MSN, just not Google...

Any suggestions? How do I keep their sites ranking for a much longer term?

My clients aren't all that great at adding new content to their site... Would that be the reason? How would I keep the content updated with the littlest effort from my client? Or does the client have to put in more effort then what he does now?

I thought RSS Feeds but who does RSS Feeds on hats which is my clients product?

I'm puzzeled and I don't really want to send my client a report saying he is not ranking in Google..... sad

    Thanks for your help!

It really depends on the competition. Google is judging your client sites against their competitors.

If the clients are putting in minimal effort, while the competition is going all out, the clients will lose.

There are many factors that decide ranking. Research and planning will go along way in a successful SEO campaign.

Google Updates are their way of determining the most relevant pages to serve up to the public based on search values.

A year ago, you could nail Top Ten on 4 or 5 keywords on the same single page. That was a sweet deal for SEOs. Optimizing 4 pages and selling a 15 keyword contract was good for the client and the SEO.

But now it takes a lot more work. Who does the work is dependent on the contract.

You may have to optimize 15 pages to nail Top Ten for 15 keywords.

If the competition has more relevant links, you have to figure out an economical way to overcome that.

Whatever plan you come up with, it has to be signed by the client. Usually if you lay out a written game plan with all the extra needed expenses documented, they will agree with you.

Is there some kind of maximum that Google will allow for a page to make the top 10? What is the maximum?

I think it depends on the competition. If other pages are focusing content on 3 keywords, try focusing on 2 keywords. Remember that the search engines rank you in comparison to other pages.

And from a Internet user's perspective, good precise content is what they are looking for! smile
