PPA was available in beta and it looks like it is now open to all advertisers. I have proposed using it to some advertisers. Since you only pay for actual conversions it should be worth testing, especially for advertisers making direct sales and those who know the value of their leads. It remains to be seen what each conversion will cost so advertisers will want to ensure that their advertising is profitable.
You may want to consider running content ads as PPA (pay per acquisition) so that you only pay by the sale and not just for traffic. Ideally this will work best if you can target specific sites you believe your potential buyers may be frequenting. Here is the information on PPA from Google's help system below for anyone who may be interested:
What are pay-per-action ads?
Pay-per-action ads are part of a new pricing model that allows advertisers to pay only when specific actions that they define are completed by a user on their site. Rather than paying for clicks or impressions, advertisers can choose to pay when a user makes a purchase, signs up for a newsletter, or completes any other clearly defined action that they choose. Pay-per-action ads are eligible to appear on publisher sites in the Google content network, and publishers can choose specific pay-per-action ads that are relevant to their site to run in new ad units that they create.

Where will my pay-per-action ads appear?
Your pay-per-action ads are eligible to appear on publisher websites in the Google content network. Individual publishers can choose to place specific pay-per-action ads in new ad units that they create, or allow us to serve the highest converting pay-per-action ads that are related to keywords that they choose.
How do publishers choose my pay-per-action ad?]
When you create a pay-per-action ad, you'll enter a series of keywords that will describe your product or service to website publishers who are part of the Google content network. These keywords will trigger your ads to appear when a publisher searches for ads within their account. Publishers also have the option to browse (by product category or view entire advertiser inventory) through ads rather than searching.

Absolutely - this is a big tip! Try searching page 1 of the organic listings for your major (i.e., most profitable) keywords and see which of those sites have AdSense listings...those are the sites you want to target with your PPA traffic.

- Dave

Thanks for participating and sharing that tip Dave. Advertisers who have the clearest idea who their buyers are and can place their ads in front of those advertisers will see the most success.
For some there are some obvious niche sites. I would even suggest contacting any that are not direct competitors (they're probably information sites) that do not already have adsense and discussing targeting ads on their site either through that program or directly.
Even if some sources are obvious there will be others you haven't discovered yet. Some advertisers may find it tricky to find such sites so try brainstorming and dig into your traffic logs and whatever analytics you may have.
If anyone has any great ideas on what type of sites or specific sites where someone who wants to BUY art might hang out I'd love to hear from you. I've seen several sellers of art (paintings, sculptures, giclees, lithographs, etc.) that could really use an assist in identifying sources. Thanks in advance for any feedback. Only advertisers with more than 500 conversions in thirty days are currently eligible to use PPA advertising. Here is the information from Google's help system:
Can I participate in the pay-per-action beta?
You're eligible to use pay-per-action advertising if you have received more than 500 conversions through a cost-per-click (CPC) or cost-per-thousand impressions (CPM) campaign in prior 30 days.
Please be aware, however, that pay-per-action advertising is only available in certain languages.
If you're eligible to participate, you'll see an alert in your AdWords account informing you that you can now create pay-per-action campaigns.

I'm wondering if there is a way to actually 'target' sites other than selecting your keywords and letting Google/publishers decide where your ads will display? I know you can exclude. Can you set preferred sites somehow? I don't see anything at this point so I'm assuming it's just wishful thinking for now?

Google has a feature that allows you to target your ads to specific sites. If you find the link to create a new campaign you will hopefully see "site-targeted" link too. It was in beta but I believe it has been released to all advertisers now.
You can go to Google Site Targeting Help for more information.

Hmm, I do see it for regular KW campaigns, however am still not seeing it for PPA. I realize now my earlier post wasn't so clear (sorry) -- I was wondering about site-targeting PPA ads. :- )

Since it's been a few more weeks since we've talked about PPA I just thought I'd give this post a bump and see if anyone has had any positive results with PPA? Personally, we've seen lots of impressions, few clicks and still no conversions but we're considering expanding our effort in this area. Has anyone found it to be "worth it"?
