I'm just curious: what's the highest click price for a term that you've seen at Overture? I've recently seen over $8 a click for 'search engine optimization company' and several at $5 a click. Anyone seen anything higher?

currently:
"conference call" = $18.23
"conference calling" = $15.56
(these are actual, not max bids, because the Top 5 are all in this range.)
Yesterday some one put $59 as his Max bid for "Mountain Retreat" - I just can't believe people do that - it's dumb. competitors can bump their price to 1 cent less & make you pay it for a few clicks.

Interesting. I've never seen a term go that high before.

I saw $30 clicks in sports betting related terms. Now it is low season but wait the football to come and the prices will go to the sky.

I know of several words that have 'actual' bids in the $40. range but generally don't call attention to them for obvious reasons. I have one account which currently has 19 'actual' bids over $15.00 each, with 3 to 5 bidders at the top. It's obviously very intense and very competitive.
But a couple of weeks ago on another account I had a very strange occurrence in which a newly arrived bidder set his max bid for just under $80. on a word whose bids normally were in the $1.20. range. I wasn't even aware that Overture had raised their maximum bid above $50., but I do find new advertisers that come in with high bids in an attempt to intimidate other bidders (stupid as that might be) into not vying for first place. And then on a DNS check I found he was registered on the same keyword with another account, which of course is in violation of Overture's TOA. So I locked him in at his bid, assuming he'd get the message and/or run out of money in the meantime, but was very surprised to see that he didn't move. So out of curiosity I put him on my ultra-frequent monitoring status, maintaining the locked position, and he didn't move for 3 full days...and this on a term where first place garners me 100 or more clickthrus per day. This was a very large company with obviously a high limit on their auto-replenish credit card. I reported his double keyword entry to Overture and both sites have since disappeared. High price to pay for a lesson.

Online casinos, web hosting, SEO, credit cards, debt consolidation... any high-profit biz will be a high dollar baller on PPC. And those lawyers paying 50 dollars plus per click can make 10 times what they spend if they get a good case. Makes me even more P.O. 'bout the min. price hikes, but I'll be good today and just leave it at that ;-)

Wow, some really high numbers there. I'd be frightened of fraudulent clicks. Or a competitor rigging up something so you have a humongous bill at the end of the month!

That sort of thing just doesn't happen. What type of person would do that? I think you may be a little paranoid ;-)

Mesothelioma is a big profitable business. There is already billions set aside to pay these asbestos claims. It's basically a slam dunk for lawyers. If it cost them $2,500 to get a multimillion dollar client, they are still laughing all the way to the bank.

I've seen merchant account go as high as $25.00 with new bidders lately. It's funny, their seems to be an endless source of people willing to try and tough it out in first for certain keywords and they are replaced by another bidder just as fast as they get washed out.
