Hi, I use to have a hosting directory site, but I have abandoned it because I have no time (or money) to manage it. I have a data of around 3000 hosting companies which I have gathered throughout the years. These data was collected by going to their sites and copy-paste whatever info I can get to be showcased at my website. I also collected the data from various other hosting directories on the net. I am thinking of selling the data as I have no use of it and do need the money.

As an added info, although the website died in about 7-8 months ago, I am still collecting the data (although not rigorously as before).

I guess you can use the data for SEO purposes (not sure). You can rewrite the data into their own pages, resulting in addition of around 3000 pages. You can PM me for the link for the first and last 125 data so you can verify if the data is still good (if you're interested). Since this is a sample data, it excludes the lowest/highest hosting prices and the "About Us" info data of the hosting companies (you will get them if you buy this).

    Thanks smile

Not much use form an SEO side, IMO.

...and why would anyone pay for old data that's freely available today?

Not trying to rain your plans, but...

Might be of some use if it was all checked and dead content removed, then everything was placed inside blank html to allow easy integration into an existing site - but man, 3,000 pages - too much work for my fingertips... sad

I am not sure on the SEO side, but I believe Google counts the inside (pages) as well as the outside links (linking back to our site). That's why people are providing more and more free services, or various free hostings, etc. Notice how they rewrite their URL to show the users' full URL (no more *.php?id=xyz)? (I can be wrong, so please do correct me). Moreover, hosting industry are one of the most popular one in the internet. People are researching web hosting companies everyday. So there's a good chance one or more of the hosting company data are being searched by people.

As for the data, although it's not 100% complete, you will be able to have 3000 pages instantly (instead of creating the page one by one yourself). Of course, it would be an excellent data (and much much higher priced) if I have the time to update it, but unfortunately, I don't. Plus, I don't need the data anymore. So I figured perhaps someone would be willing to buy this from me and continue with the work I have started. Thanks for the comments though. I really do appreciate it :D

BUT, getting traffic requires the page rank well for the company/keyword phrase - not such an easy task for newer websites in that vertical. wink

As for the data, although it's not 100% complete, you will be able to have 3000 pages instantly (instead of creating the page one by one yourself).

Suddenly having 3,000 new pages is not a good idea for any website. Engines like to see a natural progression of growth for a website. 3,000 new pages in one day smacks of automation and usually gets a greasy eyeball from the engines - something no one wants.

Of course, it would be an excellent data (and much much higher priced) if I have the time to update it, but unfortunately, I don't.

Honestly then, the data is next to worthless, IMO. Not only would I have to pay for it, but I'd still have to invest a lot of my own time in getting rid of the deadwood - and there may be LOTS, we have no way to know really...

Sorry, I'm still going to have to say there's little real value to the stuff - sadly. I'm sure it did take loads of time to compile, but in the end, it had better be pretty cheap to warrant any money changing hands.

...not to mention there's the whole issue of what if it gets sold to more than one buyer - duplicated content does no one any good. This is NOT a knock against you, but you're brand new here and you're asking folks to trust you, give you some money, and take on a job of undetermined size, which may or may not have any value down the road...

Having said all that, I wish you the best of luck with it. It does take a LOT of time and work to build good unique content.

Thanks for the comments SportsGuy smile

As for the trust, well, there's no way a new guy can ask for so much, right? I guess I'd better keep the data then. Thanks again for the great discussion.

Happy to chat chat. Bottom line is still if you feel there is value, do what you think is best for you.

I'd personally find some time to start getting the content usable for myself, but my situation is different than yours, so...
