My homepage has been dropped for the umteeth time and I wonder if it's the white text on blue background on a reasonable amount of the homepage that's triggering a filter that thinks it's hidden text ?
Any opinions ?

if you could put your domain in your profile, then people could have a look and tell you, if it's dark blue, then it's fine, if it's a really really really light blue, then, yes that is your problem

Yes, it is light blue, I don't want to post the url here as it's a high profile site where I am. Thanks for your help.

How sure are you that white on light blue would be a problem and how would the bots detect it ?

I've read the it's pretty simple math for the bots to subtract the color values between the background and font colors and then determine a threshold of what's hidden and what's not. And just about everything I've read also says hidden text is a big no no.
When you say you've been dropped, do you mean rankings or do you mean you have been banned?
One idea that may work is substitute your blue background with a 1x1 pixel background of the same blue color. I don't think the bots can determine the color of a gif or jpg yet.
Anyone know?

The homepage just disappears from the index for a couple of weeks then pops back in. I'm changing the colours just in case. No one searches MSN anyway, don't know why we bother.

The best way to know if it could be classed as hidden text is to see if you can read it without straining your eyes, if you believe you can read it fine, then it is, ask a friend or a fellow employee (or someone ) to read it, if they say its difficult or it strains there eyes, then yes that is your problem

Guess what...........the homepage has appeared again, that was quick, perhaps they read my email.
I'm going ro change the text anyway, it's easy to read but perhaps borderline, I'll take that possible problem out of the equation just to be sure.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Bots don't care much about colors so long as your text meets the HEX differentiation for not being (obviously) invisible. In other words, #FFFFFF text on a white screen will send red flags to every engine from Hong Kong to New York, etc,.
