thats an interesting point as in prior posts there was a question about wheather this is still JimWorld, unfortunately, so much time has passed that I believe most users do not know of or remember Jim and also only know this as SEF.

this leads to my previous suggestion, the forum needs a few new personalities with faces and profiles to lead the masses.

aye, I agree with this a lot, it will be face(s) that can get new people, lets look at a few other forums...

searchenginewatch.com - back in the day Danny Sullivan

webmasterworld.com - Brett Tabke

digitalpoint.com - Shawn Hogan

Highrankings.com - Jill Whalen

to name a few faces and that's not including their mods

So, who do you want for the new look? Like I suggested before, Paris Hilton or Tom Cruse? The people you mention have had a legitimate impact on the formation of the Web -- as did Jim Wilson -- some had more, some less.

Name the movers and shakers now. Nobody shines bright. If you buy into the "value is perception" philosophy, you're going to burn up the legacy Green Stamps (thought I'd throw that in for an anachronism too just to dig you) this forum has accumulated over the years.

Look, with the level of expertise in this forum the mods and standing members could launch a completely new, fresh, TOTALLY different forum that looked and operated nothing like this one...Something totally interactive, cool and avant garde built with Ajax/Ruby/Javascript that would win awards and gain instant recognition and popularity. If it works, go with it.

This Band-Aid method ain't gonna cut it, that's for sure.

I like gray and blue colors just fine. But everybody else on the planet probably thinks it sucks, so changes are probably a good idea and that's not the half of it.

If this forum dies a slow, cancerous death it's because nobody could adapt or make decisions fast enough to retain the interest of the people you serve, namely the huge audience of both new and old SEOs globally who look to this forum to enhance themselves.

you don't have to have anyone famous or wellknown. Who ever is chosen will rise to stardom just because they are the faces that people will see and associate with the forum. They will become instant authorities wheather they are or not.

Hmm well - we may have a pedestrian appearance and thing might move slowly, but I don't know of anyplace that welcomes and makes comfortable members so well.

Maybe I'm stuck in a rut or something, but I think if we keep saying what we want and make it clear, then appropriate actions for design and interface can take place.

As pointed out it isn't really about all that, but it's about the central community feeling which can become a place to be, ask others and become informed that matters when you are looking...

I don't know. It just seems like this persistent warm, fuzzy feeling I have for the SEF is starting to remind me of how I used to feel about InfoSeek, AltaVista, HotBot and DMOS.

And we all know what happened there.

Hummph...

I can understand what you are saying and where you are coming from, but I don't see any equivelent out there really.

We are just folks here, not too much of an agenda running behind it. Well - at least THAT IS WHY I AM HERE AND REMAIN HERE.

As far as new faces go, I think Paris Hilton has my vote. I mean, what's the worst that could happen? She embeds a youtube snippet on the forum telling us how she can't respond to any posts because of a broken nail? I can live with that wink
