I am new to Webtrends and was wondering if someone could answer the following question(s)
1. What is the difference between a page view and a page visit?
2. How does Webtrends calculate a visit?
3. Can you track a visit by using the site cookie?
4. How can you get Webtrends to track what called the custom error page that we have on our site?
That is all for now. Thanks.

1. What is the difference between a page view and a page visit?
I think the question is "What is the difference between a Visit and a Page View?"
~ Visit - a user comes to the site - this is counted once per session. If a user comes to the site, stays 5 minutes, then leaves, that's one visit. A user can account for multiple visits each day, so long as they come to the site, then actually leave the site completely (go somewhere else, close the window, etc.)
~ Page View - this is a measure of the number of pages all your VISITORS went to - a user who went to 6 pages on your site, had, basically, one visit, which generated 6 page views.
~ Unique Visitor - a user who has never been to your site before; their first time ever. Uniques are counted as Visits, as well, by WebTrends. If a user has their cookies turned off, they will always be counted as Unique, as WT uses the cookie to determine when, if ever, you have been to the site before.
2. How does Webtrends calculate a visit?
A visit is calculated by a user opening apage on your site - if the page is called from the server, WT sees that as the beginning of the users Visit 'session" and starts tracking where they go from there.
3. Can you track a visit by using the site cookie?
WT hands over it's own cookie to ID the Visitor for future sessions. Once a Visitor enters your site, WT looks at them as an individual and can, should you deicde to do the backend setting up, show you actual paths individuals follwed through your site
4. How can you get Webtrends to track what called the custom error page that we have on our site?
There should be a section you can set up which will automatically collate the data and show you which errors appeared on the site. It's a given that the error should bring up your custom page, but if you dig through the stats, WT will show you a list of what the users asked for that triggered the errors.
Incidentally, it's important to remember this:
WebTrends is simply an interpreter. It looks thorugh your log files and shows you the data in easy-to-digest ways. It's also insanely complicated, and, for example, V. 7.0 has LARGE issues. Our company uses it and we finally are seeing accurate numbers now that we upgraded to the latest version.
They are also hard on the head to deal with - I know this from personal experience.
