How can I determine if referrals are coming from organic or ppc results from an engine like Yahoo which has both Overture Site Match and regular web site matches? Can someone point me to a reference that matches the various referring domains/URLs I might find in my web logs to search engine results? (I use Urchin)

    http://search.yahoo.com/search
    http://search.yahoo.com/bin/search
    http://yp.yahoo.com/py/yploc.py

I noticed several variations of msn referrals recently and would like to be able to attribute traffic to various result sources.

    Thanks,
    Greg

You can either get some tracking software on the site, we are currently reviwing Index Tools so will let you know on that. Otherwise you can tag the ends... so for example:

    www.yoursite.com?source=google_ads

and you can take it further by extending it too and including the keyterm

    www.yoursite.com?source=google_ads_keyterm_1

Other options are doorway style pages just for your PPC campigans, you could have:

    www.yoursite.com/google.asp

or as we do just give them code names so:

www.yoursite.com/google.asp would be www.yoursite.com/home.asp so it does look as tacky

    Hope that helps smile
