Hi,

My question concerns tracking visits and unique visitors. We have an old version of Webtrends (version 4). The tracking of unique visitors is done solely by IP address. I'm wondering what the margin of error for tracking unique visitors this way would be. I know what things could cause inaccuracy with tracking by IP.

I'm wondering:

Could anything outside of real unique visitors cause us to see a strong trend of more or less unique visitors from one year to the next (changing of network trends, etc.)?

Is there a generally accepted amount of error to expect when tracking unique visitors by IP (hopefully based on valid stats that have been researched)?

If anyone has links to any articles about this or anything like that, that would be great. Thank you for any help.

For this subject, I'm having a question:
Which of these, visits or unique visitors, is the most important?

Unique visitors would be more important.
