I don't think this really is the place for this post, but it seems close 
I currently use a FREE host which actually works well for my current needs, but I can't use a .COM with them (unless I use redirection) as I can't add myself to their DNS. So, I would like an affordable but reliable webhost. There are millions to choose from so it's confusing. Anyone have any suggestions? Even a free one that allows the options I need would be fine, I don't mind *some* ads (see below) - not many allow SSI.
Currently I use ProHosting's free plan - they are good but want too much money for the paid plan, especially for the storage/xfer they give - but are reliable ($18/month, 400mb, 15bg xfer)
I heard GoDaddy was good, but I also heard they aren't so good by other people. ($9, 2gb, 100gb xfer)
Canaca sounds good ($7/month for 3 months, can't do by the month which sucks - 10gb, 200gb xfer)
I search for reviews on google but you always have people unhappy with someone's services.
I *NEED* CGI/Perl/SSI/domain-DNS (however you say it) - I really don't need much storage at the moment (100mb is fine)

If you search your favorite search engine for 'cheap web hosting' you'll most likely find some pretty good web hosts that are willing to charge you $2-3 a month for a decent web hosting plan. That seems to be the going rate nowadays for a basic site.
By paying $2-3 a month you should be able to get everything you need--enough space and SSI.

Canaca offers $4/month but it's for a 12 month plan. GoDaddy for $4/month doesn't offer Perl, unsure about SSI, doesn't say. I do have a couple listings of hosts/prices/features but mainly looking for people who have actually used them and have good things to say about them. Trouble with affordable/cheap hosting is they might be slow, down alot, etc. Thanks for your input.

Our forum policy prohibits us from recommending specific web hosts as there are other forums where you can get recommendations and reviews.
I suggest that you always keep a backup of your site and feel free to move your site to another host if they're not performing for you or providing a level of service that you expect.
