Hi,

How do I get into Google Maps if I don't want to use my home-based business address?

I've noticed recently that Google Maps results are listed at the top of the first page of results for my keywords which has resulted in pushing down all other sites that ranked well on the first page.

How are sites ranked on Google Maps..is it random?

Thank you

Rent an office?

Sorry if this sounds flippant, but Google map results are based on address and/or post code data.

It is important to allow for this when optimising for Google's universal results. Google will also start showing other results in the near future such as:

News results.
Blog results.
Image results.
Video results.
Froogle results.

All of these push organic results down the page, but conversely give extra options for SEO.

Search for Darth Vader and you will find a good example.

Thanks for taking the time to reply

Would you recommend using my home address (since that is where my business resides).
I'm concerned customers may drive there and realize it's a residence.

Am I over reacting?

It's quite a complex algorithm based on your listing with certain directories, the content and theme of your own site and the details you provide to Google maps when you set up your account.
