Last year I ranked very well in Google but not well in Yahoo.
This year I rank very well in Yahoo but not well in Google.
I feel like building 2 sites one focused on google's algo and one focused on yahoo's algo. Sites would have robots.txt to protect them from each other.
Site A:
Algo playing for Google
robots.txt Disallow yahoo
Site B:
Algo playing for Yahoo
robots.txt Disallow Google
BOTH sites same content just in a differnt format from each engine's algorithm.
Is this a late night brain fart or does it make sense?

the question is, can we trust google and yahoo to listen to the robots.txt files?
certainly an interesting idea...
anyone tried this?

Thanks for the feedback. I have done some big changes to the site to go after google traffic If I lose my yahoo hits I will do a roll back and think about creating another site. SEOK keep us in the loop.

When choosing different domains for Y! and G did you just change "com" for "net" etc or did you try to make the
domain completly different??

Ever heard about cloaking ? You can design pages specifically for each major search engine out there. If you use a diabolically configured server software which delivers content specific to each search engine - you might come on the top for all the targeted engines.
But is this worth the trouble and the underlying risk of getting banned from all ?

Sorry, did it sound like I was trying to cloak?
What I am talking about is a very specific response to a very specific Yahoo! problem.
I say a Yahoo! problem because they are missing lots of good sites from their index with some rather ill advised and executed penalties.
Once banned it is almost impossible to get back in, no matter how hard or long you try. So if you want to call it cloaking go ahead.
I prefer to call it survival!

Long term survival is key. cloak is not something I would do to risk my pay check.
Today I have
www.somedomain.com
Top 10 for all my key words in yahoo
In the future (maybe)
www.somedomain.net
To go after google ranking
Using robots.txt make sure the bots hit right domain.
The FACT is that google brings way way more traffic than any other search engine. Now When Goolge starts losing their traffic to another engine I have another site ready. Yahoo or MSN or who every the new compeditor is. If you think 50% traffic from google and a new MSN starts to kick a*s on another algo I want to be ready. Sound strang and a lot of work but watch the market as google starts to drop. Coming year 2 years? This Industry is seeing the billions to be make in this area and they are not sleeping anymore.
