Link building is the key for an effective SEO campaign. This works best for PR and SERP. Always provide useful and relevant content in your websites niche as this will help in quality organic linking - sites will naturally link to your site once they see unique and helpful information in your site. Keep in mind that the more targeted backlinks you build for your site, the more likely it will bring in the right visitors that could make the conversions for better revenue. You do targeted link buidling for fast and long term traffic to your sites.

There are several ways to build links. Here are just some of the following:

Directory Submissions - targeted links at high PR directories
Blog and Forum Postings - to high PR and frequently crawled sites
Social Bookmarking
Classified Ads
Article Marketing - submit to high PR directories, could also serve as link baits
Link Exchange - with relevant and authority sites
Link Baits - for organic linking
Etc. etc.

What are your thoughts? What kind of link building method do you use and how effective has it been?

yep true, link building is a important key for SEO but latest trend for instant outbound link by social bookmarking, blogging rather than directory, Article submission, link exchange. digg, reddit, technorati, clipclip.org, zestbit.com, stumbleupon all r gud social networking.

I like the squidoo lens thing...they seem to rank highly on Google sometimes as well. It could well be worth putting together a decent one for your site.

No decent forum allows link dropping - so most of the links dropped are spam.

And most get removed quickly - and those that don't will have poor value. Google can recognise in a nanosecond a forum full of unrelated lins, most to cr*p sites - if you choose to join them, you may find a bad neighborhood close behind.

So, in general, a good forum won't allow link drops - and a bad forum will - but likely they'll have very little value.

It's really time people learned Google's views on unrelated links wink

I rarely see a directory with PR on their linking pages since Google started penalizing directories for selling links.

I think good old fashioned link building with relevant sites has and will always be the best way.

Part 1 of a good two-part plan.

Part 2 is - build lots of quality, uniqe content.

It might surprise folks how far a well written, polite, e-mail will go towards securing a link to your site from a related one.

Sports guy, true and we dont see alot politness these days when it comes to link requests because so many seo's are trying to automate the process. When i was a steakhouse cook
my customers came not only for the food but because they could also talk to me about their everyday problems. Its the human factor.

Items 1, 2, 4, 5 are mostly spam, or likely to be treated as spam.

When carrying out 3 and 6, most of the sites you might submit to are junk.

Doesn't leave a lot to work with from that list.

Anyone recommending a three way link exchange has probably been in prison for the past four years. Or watching "Lost".

Google can spot such amateur spam at 3,678.6KM

Google can spot 17-way linking at 768.9KM

Think about it; what does Google do for a living?

But it always depends on links - it's a measure of 'link popularity'.

I'm talking about real page rank, not the outdated little green bar!

PR depends on the traffic for your site. But if you have link back from good relevant with high PR site then there will be great possibilities to get your site PR faster. No doubt there also have another options to arrest traffic for site (i.e Forum, social book marking ..etc) but still link building i necessary for a site to promote quickly.

No it does not. It depends on links...that is all.

Google has no ability to control paid and unrelated links. I have been watching for a year as one of my larger client's competetors THRIVE despite my reports to google. For example search car loans on google. Examine pacific paranormal.org they are #1 they have moved up slowly with what look like blog spam and links from russian sites. The idea that google has any control over this is an illusion. THey do not, and they do not listen to paid link and link spam reports.
