    BLINDING FLASH OF THE OBVIOUS
In "social networking" with people about link development, somebody said, "why don't you just email appropriate sites and ask for a link. Ask them to mention your site on their website?"

I'm thinking if you play the numbers game, write a nice email, personalize it, you should be able to get some percentage of return.

It's just too obvious.... I hadn't thought about an angle where people would actually link to my site.

I was curious to know if anybody has been successful with asking for links back to their site.

Sure, I do it all the time. It's no big deal. Just say:

Hi, I have been developing some information on *mydomain/mypage.html* and I think that page would be a great additional resource for your visitors and should be linked from your page at:
    yourdomain/yourpage.html

Feel free to develop your own description, but please run it by me before going live.

    Cheers!

    hey excell,
Do you get a reasonable close rate on that?

Other question: do you contact sites directly in your industry, and/or surrounding industries?

I love this concept. It's fundamentally sound.

relevant only - all taken from a logical user view point

If you make it obvious that they should of course link to you.
They would seem like jerks not to - provided you do indeed offer something of value to their valued viewers.

I can see that, if done properly, asking for links is a time consuming on going process.. Kinda like relationship development.

Sometimes the best skill for a webmaster is a high amount of patience!

    This is good..

    Thanks
