Hi. I'm publishing a site which is primarily an article about auctions and yet the adsense algorthm seems to want to equate it with automotive, even though there is not one mention of auto or car on the site. On top of that the ads seem geotargeted to southern california, even though again, that has nothing to do with the article. Also, I've noticed that I'm getting mostly public service ads, which as much as I love the public, aren't going to do much for my bottom line. Any thoughts on how I can influence the keywords? Is it mostly analyzing the links on my page?

PS ads are shown when G has no current ads whihc it think match the content - don't sweat it. It can sometimes take a few days for the system to fully crawl your content.
Check your pages again for references to automotive bits - anything "hidden" in the metadata? The are are shown in relation to the content found on the page - in the code & visual.
Goe-targeting - this type of thing, if actual, can only be done through the account, IIRC - so it's something which has been set up, rather than something that just happens on it's own.
Hopefully Rose or someone can correct me if I'm off on that bit.
As well, if there are only a few advertisers showing ads which match your content, they will be repeated frequently - may lead to you seeing this "geotargeting" thing.

Ok, thanks. The site is not actually live on the net either, so maybe that has something to do with it. I looked at my adsense account and couldn't find anything to do with geotargeting.

i believe he was talking about geo targeting that the advertiser sets, not from your end as a publisher. you're not missing anything regarding setup.
The car/auction thing could be related to the auction topic of your site and a lot of advertisers bidding on the 'auction' term in relation to cars.
To improve your ads, once online if you are having trouble, you probably want to consider section targeting. This allows you to specify certain text within your html that should be considered.

The site is not actually live on the net either, so maybe that has something to do with it.
If you are viewing the pages while they are on your computer (not uploaded to a site) then you will only see PSAs.
