I've just started putting Google Adsense ads on my webpages a couple months ago and so far have been somewhat disappointed with the returns. Is anyone here making a living off AdSense, and if so, what kind of traffic does your website have to generate? I'd love to hear any success stories with Adsense, and what you have done to optimize your efforts.

    (url in profile, please)

How much money is required for "making a living" would vary greatly from person to person.

Unless you mean under four figures, it would take a lot of traffic and probably thousands of pages to generate an income most could live on.

It could be done; however, it is unwise to have your entire income derived from one source.

I have tried AdSense on several sites, including one that is high-traffic, and been very disappointed. I recommend finding good sites to affiliate with, even though that is more work. Your mileage may vary, however. (For real income, though, nothing beats having a good business that sells things online; that is our major source of revenue.)

Your Milage May Vary is going to be the phrase of the day here. Some folks have great success with AdSense, some do not. Some folks I know with similar site content even have varying levesl of success with AdSense.

Obviously there are going to be some content topics for which AdSense isn't very useful; whether it be unable to match decent ads, or the ads it matches are too low in their bids, it might not always work out.

On the other hand, I think that AdSense success has a lot to do with implementation strategy as well. As with almost any content site income method, you can't merely slap it up on the site and keep checking stats. This stuff takes work.

Flyingrose makes a good point as well. Don't ever put all your eggs in one basket. VERY unwise.

I don't think thousands of pages would be needed. I'm sure of that. So hypothetically what would it take to go above 4 figures or 10000. I'd target for two thousand visitors per day as a goal then imo. Go 5x that and things tend to definitely grow exponentially. Can you get 10k visitors per day?

How many visitors per day? Let's say average - 1928
How many page views per visitor? - 5.42

That totals 10500 page views per day. Its really a somewhat chaotic system which is important to understand. Trends & longevity matter the most in the long run.

well, i was making roughly 5 bucks a day with a small forum community which honestly, since it was just something i was doing on the side was great to start.

my problem with google was that when i got hit from a few different search engine robots in a few days, google yanked my acct saying i was using a robot to generate clicks...and even wehn i offered to provide my server logs they stood by 'their data' which of course they wouldnt share...

subsequently, they also refused to pay me knowing full well i cant go to court for a couple hundred bucks sad

with the right traffic the money wouldnt have been bad though

when i got hit from a few different search engine robots in a few days,

Uh, that's not possible. At least it wasn't the search engine robots. Realearch engine robots do not use javascript, so a search engine bot/spider visit will not show up as a page impression. Furthermore, bots don't click on javascript links/contextual ads.

I'm not saying that it was your fault necessarily, just that it wasn't a search engine robot that clicked on your ads.

hmmm, didnt know that but its the only thing i can come up with looking at server logs...cuz i know i wasnt running a robot, nor was i clicking my own links so i dont know whats up with it lol

could it be that between the forum and blog areas i hit the site a few times a day and they read that as false impressions?

i just started a website 1 month ago. in my first month I am making over $20.00 per day from adsense alone. granted I am getting about 20,000 ad impressions per day. however, if you could get 10,000 ad impressions per day this should mean you can earn $10.00-13.00 per day. with 5,000 impressions you should be able to get around $5.00 per day. the way my website is optimized it seems that about every $1,000 impressions gets me another dollar in revenue. of course there are tons of variable that affect adsense revenue. what is written on a given page can affect profits because some ads are higher paying than others. reading most of the ads on my pages i think they are mostly low-paying ads due to the content of the pages they are on so i dont think it would be difficult to turn a greater profit from the above numbers. if you're still with me here then the only real palpable tip i can give you is this: Google Optimization Tips

Those are the google optimization tips. if you overlooked these then read them because it is all a numbers game and google research shows that these tips will help your numbers.

WOW! One month old and enjoying enough traffic to show 20,000 ad impressions per day...must be a pretty amazing niche, given Google limits the number of ads on any page.

I notice no domain is listed in your profile...

Depending upon the season, one of our sites -- as an example -- will yield an average of around $25 daily (from 6,000 to 8,000 ad impessions).

Site size itself is around 27,000 pages. For our particular purposes, Google AdSense seems to be a very benficial and well made contextual ad program.

But rather than designing a site around the objectives of Google Ads, we focus more on developing strong content that will stand alone regardless of the ad program we employ.
