Hi everyone, I've been a memeber here for a while, but for some reason, could not login and stay logged in anymore. I tried everything that was suggested, and still couldn't stay logged in. I was assured I wasn't blocked, so it must be a cookie issue somewhere that I couldn't find, but I really did look everywhere!

My issue is, someone helped me create a phpbb forum and it has grown really large, but, for some reason is still not being picked up very much by the search engines. It's been online for about a year and a half, so I should not be being penalized for a new site.

I did add a mod to get rid of the sids, but it still seems like the sids are still showing up.

Without knowing much about php, I built the whole website pretty much on it. My mistake, but I didn't know it at the time.

My server is due in a few days, and would really like an honest opinion on what to do with the whole website. Should I just trash it, and start over? I really hate to do that as my forum has well over 27,000 posts, and a lot of people have put some hard work into it, without being paid a penny. If I can save anything, I would like to save the forum.

I'm not sure if I can post the link to the website or the forum, so that is why I am leaving it out of this post.

If you think it is worth keeping, then I would be willing to pay someone to go in and optimize it. When I first started it, I relied on someone else that knew some stuff about php, but they do not know enough about it to do what needs to be done.

I know next to nothing about it, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

There's really no reason to have to pay someone; just work with us here and we'll help get it indexed properly and ranking better than it is right now.

If it's the site in your profile then I see that you have about 6800+/- pages indexed. You might take a look here as phpbb is a standard type of board and can be optimized with a few global changes.

The next thing you'd need to do is to get more links to your site from other sites.

Hi bhartzer, and thanks, I appreciate it. I added a mod a while back, but the search engines still seem to be picking up the sids (at least google is). It looks like they are indexing the links something like this (I'm leaving the real domain name out in case I can't post it):
www.mydomain.com/Board/forum-2.html&sid=f9cb3b8416e33dfa5ebd629102ebcca6
and also like this:
www.mydomain.com/Board/viewtopic.php?t=3822&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=150&sid=f54

I'm not really good on this stuff, but it looks like to me that the mod is somewhat working because of the /fourm-2.html but then the sid is after that. That isn't the way it is supposed to be is it? I thought it was supposed to take off the sid. If you get a chance, would you mind looking at the forum and see if I didn't do something right? My site is in my profile, and there is a link to the forum on the site.

Thanks so much

Seems as though you still need something to rewrite the urls entirely, perhaps using mod_rewrite.

Thanks again, bhartzer. I am using a mod_rewrite, but I am wondering if perhaps I left out something in it, and that could be causing the sids to still show? I have looked back over it several times, and I am pretty sure I did it correctly.

Have you tried the link pointed to by bhartzer ? In that there is a tip to avoid the sid appearing in your URLs.

Your forum contains good content and at the moment Google has more than 8000 pages indexed though many of them have fallen into supplementals.

Before you start tweaking your code, take a full backup of your data. Upgrade to the recent version of the software and copy back your data.

Thanks Prowler, I haven't visited the site yet, but I plan to.

Thanks for the compliments on the forum, we have some great members, and some have really worked hard on it. That's one of the main reasons I really want to get it optimized.

I used to have more indexed by google, until this last google dance, but now there are less and most that are left like you said are in supplemental. Some of it is also due to the fact that I didn't know to exclude the print pages in the robots.txt file. Now that I have, hopefully, some will get out of the supplemental.

Thank you both for the tips, I really appreciate your help.

I looked at the page that bhartzer posted, thanks, that is the mod I do already have. So, I'm a little stumped!
