What is the story with sites hosted with Go Daddy getting dropped by Google? Should I switech from Go Daddy? If I switch how long will it take for me to get back into the index? Or am I better off staying with Go Daddy?

You should switch, Go Daddy said they did nothing wrong...yada yada. just switch and hopefully you will be back in a month or less.

Ha - I had 10 sites hosted for a year with GoDaddy - none of them were EVER indexed or given a PR. I removed them and put them on another host and suddenly - they were indexed and given PR.

I don't know what the deal is but Google seems to hate GoDaddy. And GoDaddy is either clueless or playing dumb about this fact, as I talked to them about it multiple times to see if there was a known issue. All they wanted to do was sell me more stuff to fix the problem...such as their upgraded packages and stealth ray .. or whatever its called.

Just get hosting elsewhere and you'll probably be fine.

Google doesn't hate GoDaddy, it's Godaddy that hates Google. Godaddy, I believe, was trying to save on bandwidth charges by not allowing Google to access their servers.

Well whatever the case may be it is going to hurt Go Daddy. I have a number of sites hosted there and I plan on pulling all of them.

Do you think there could possibly be a class action lawsuit over this? After all, GoDaddy didn't disclose anywhere that they would exclude you from getting listed in Google. And by purposely stopping Googlebot from indexing their clients' websites, they took away a lot of revenue from sites hosted there.

If there is I want to be a part of it. With Christmas right around the corner this is the busy season for a lot of people and if there site is not getting indexed by Google because of something Go Daddy did, WATCH OUT. You will see a lot of irrate people.

Haha - seriously - for that matter their tech support obviously has no idea of any reason why Google wouldn't be indexing sites on GoDaddy and aren't conveying that sort of info when directly asked.

How did you find out that GoDaddy was blocking GoogleBot? Are they blocking other crawlers as well? Is it with all of their hosting packages?

Without having access to their servers - if you do some research you will find more than a few threads on this subject. If they are to be believed (and some of them seem very Up and Up) the problem is GoDaddys.. be it on purpose or not I don't know but they are blocking Google from crawling.

From what I've read it almost seems like you have to pay for an extra or higher level account to be allowed the crawl.

forgive me, as far as I know, Godaddy is a domain registrar. You host your site in web hosting service. So, what's the problem? Do u mean even registering a domain through Godaddy can cause problem? (If I host the site in another web hosting company)

If only more people learned that lesson a lot earlier.

Jimsunseo, Godaddy has a hosting service as well. If you've ever registered a domain there you'd have to be blind not to see all their hosting promotional material. If you have used Google and you are indeed blind, then my bad.

This GoDaddy thing is a fact. I had www.arizonadoves.com at #1 for the last two years under "arizona dove releases", only to see it disappear after a switch to GoDaddy. Likewise with 2 other sites. After waiting 3 weeks, I switched that site to another host, and I was back at #1 in three days, while the others languished. Now, everything will be switched away from GoDaddy. I also have a reseller account with them, and you can better believe every client will be moving. I feel like getting in the car and driving over there, being that they are only a 20 minute drive.

All in the name of saving a little money in the way of bandwidth. I can see someone thinking that they can get away with it. The person who had that “bright” idea sure made a dumb decision. Dumb, dumb, DUMB!

If they are not disclosing that little scummy trick, they would deserve getting a few hard slaps on the hand for being a bad host. It's too bad when a seemingly good service goes bad like this. Hopefully for their own sakes, they'll clean up their act or they'll lose their behinds in a mass exodus from their hosting services.

Hard to believe they'd try pulling that trick. Stupid-stupid.

I'd be reviewing my hosting contract for any fine print stating that they block crawlers (kinda the whole reason to have a site esp a business site) and then talk to my lawyer. Fortunately I've never hosted with them so I don't have to do that :D

Is Go Daddy a free webhost, or do they charge for hosting? If it is free, I can see their logic. Why pay for extra bandwidth charges when you are giving hosting away for free? Other the other hand, if they are charging for hosting then someone needs to file a class action lawsuit against them.

Just my two-cents.

Not free, but cheap. Reading their hosting TOS, there is nothing in there that states they can or will block search engines from your site.

Well I pulled my site from them.

What about this? My domain and an other one that was in the top10 before nov 15 and registered with godaddy, is now dropped. Who has a godaddy registered domain in a top placement for a competitive keyword?
